Whether you are a beginner in terms of owning a motorhome or have had one for a number of years, you may find the following driving tips of some benefit. After all, there is quite a bit of difference driving a leisure vehicle in comparison to getting behind the wheel of a family hatchback car.

It would be a good idea to have a checklist of things to do before setting off in your motorhome on holiday. For instance, make sure that your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure, that all the lights are working, the brakes are fine and the oil, anti-freeze and windscreen washer reservoir levels are at the correct level. Make sure that bikes are securely fitted on the bike rack. Are roof lights and windows securely locked? Are all the cupboards secured from opening wilts you are driving?

Have you thought of going on a course to learn how best to drive a motorhome? It could be money well spent or perhaps go along to a large motorhome show where you may be able to get a free taster driving session.

Don’t forget that a motorhome is a sizeable vehicle. So, when it comes to going around corners, roundabouts, coming out of a T-junction and reversing be very conscious of this as you do not want to collide with another vehicle. You will hopefully quickly get used to making greater use of your wing mirrors than you would do in a car.

Don’t overload your motorhome.

Be conscious of high winds as your motorhome is going to be higher than your car so is more susceptible to being buffeted by winds that may push you off course into the path of an on-coming vehicle or towards the kerb.

Drive well within the speed limit to reduce the possibility of being involved in a road traffic accident. Allow yourself extra time for your journey so you do not get stressed about being late.

Finally, do make sure that you have motorhome insurance in place. In this respect, why not get in touch with us for a no-obligation, competitive quote.
