If you have owned a motorhome for a number of years then each year you will receive renewal notice from your existing insurer telling you how much your new premium is going to be for the next twelve months but also informing you how much you have just been paying over the last year. This enables you to easily compare the difference in cost and hopefully will encourage you to shop around to see if you can cover your motorhome for less.

Every quarter, the price comparison website Confused.com publishes its car insurance price index and for the third quarter of 2024 it reveals that the average premium for insuring a car has reduced to £861 per annum – down from £882 per annum in the second quarter of this year, down from £941 per annum in the first quarter of 2024 and dropping from an average of £995 per annum in the fourth quarter of 2023. Let us hope that that downward trend continues.

Of course, that index refers to car insurance premiums but let us hope that a similar pattern is seen for motorhome insurance. Having said that, many owners of motorhomes also possess a car.

Where you happen to live in the UK is one of the many things that impacts how much your car insurance costs. The above index shows that if you live in London then you are going to pay more for your cover than other parts of the UK. Inner London residents pay an average of £1,357 per annum and Outer London residents an average of £1,104 per annum. Compare that with the South East with premiums averaging £725 per annum. The cheapest region for car insurance premiums is the South West with residents paying an average of £571 per annum. That is a very big difference with Inner London.
