If you are the owner of a motorhome or are considering renting one and are thinking of visiting the Isle of Skye which is a beautiful island located off the west coast of Scotland you may find it of interest to read that the local council is considering introducing a tourist tax in view of the number of motorhomes and campervans clogging up the roads.

Apparently, the number of leisure vehicles visiting this island has almost doubled this year. In percentage terms this sounds like a big increase. It is being claimed that leisure vehicles are taking up all the parking spaces and entrance gates on the beautiful, picturesque island.

A figure of £20 per day as a “tourist tax” is being mentioned.

It is going to be interesting to monitor if anything definitely comes off this and if it is introduced will it then mean that certain other popular tourist destinations in Scotland also introduce such legislation.

There will no doubt be a number of motorhome enthusiasts who are supportive of paying such a tax but presumably there will also be some who do not agree with having to add more expense to the cost of taking a much needed break or holiday. If such a tax were introduced could it mean that some people will decide to avoid visiting the Isle of Skye. If that is the case then businesses such as shops and cafes could see their incomes reduced but would they receive any of the “tourist tax” monies?
