If, in the last few weeks, you have received your renewal notice for your motorhome insurance then it is quite possible that your insurer has put up its premiums when compared with a year ago. Apparently, according to the Confused.com car insurance price index that covers the second quarter of 2024, average car insurance premiums stood at £882 per annum. A year ago, such premiums were 14% less on average.

Of course the above index relates to car insurance not motorhome insurance but it is still quite likely that the cost of covering your motorhome has also risen.

Having said the above it is worth noting that average car insurance premiums have actually fallen in the last 3 months. In Q1 of 2024, such premiums averaged £941 per annum and in Q2 of 2024 such premiums averaged £882 per annum. That is a fall of £59 per annum equating to a drop of 6%. In fact, in the last 3 quarters, premiums have reduced. Let us hope that this trend continues throughout the remainder of 2024 and beyond.

You may or may not be aware that where you live ion the UK has a bearing upon how much you pay for your car and motorhome insurance. Those living in Inner London, on average, pay more to insure their motor vehicles than anywhere else in the UK with premiums averaging £1,404 per annum. If you live in South Wales expect to pay an average of £686 per annum. As you can see, there is a huge variance in premiums between those two regions of the UK.

It probably will not surprise you to hear that it is the younger motorist who tends to pay more to insure their motor vehicle than an experienced, older driver. In fact there is a very large difference in premiums with an 18 year old being charged an average of £2,960 per annum compared to a 38 year old who is, on average, charged £968 per annum.
