In the current economic climate here in the UK wouldn’t it be great if you had some good news. Well, we think we may have some for you.
On a quarterly basis, Confused.com produces a car insurance price index and the one covering the first quarter of 2024 provides some potentially good news.
For over 2 years, car insurance premiums have been on the increase but for the above quarter there has been a reversal of this trend. On average, premiums have fallen by £54 per annum when compared with the last quarter of 2023. Premiums now average £941 per annum with this being 5% lower than the previous quarter. No, of course it is not a huge reduction but nevertheless it is a welcome one and let us hope that this continues in the coming months. It is worth noting that premiums are still £284 per annum more than a year ago with this equating to a rise of 43%.
Whilst the index relates to car insurance it would perhaps not be unreasonable to hope that premiums have also come down for motorhome insurance. Of course, a large number of owners of motorhomes also own a family car so they may benefit twofold.
If you happen to live in Inner London then, on average, you are likely to be paying the highest premiums in the UK. Average premiums amounted to £1,501 per annum in the first quarter of 2024 with this being £434 per annum more than a year ago equating to an increase of 41%. If you reside in Manchester/Merseyside then premiums averaged £1,151 per annum with this being a rise of £337 per annum in the space of a year with this equating to a jump of 42%. If you live in the North East then premiums averaged £812 per annum with this being a rise of £233 per annum equating to a rise of 40%. The cheapest region is the South West with premiums averaging £606 per annum with this being £172 per annum more than 12 months ago equating to a jump of 40%.
