Every quarter, the price comparison website Confused.com publishes the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index. Whilst it relates to car insurance it is quite likely that a similar thing is happening to the cost of motorhome cover.

Unfortunately, the index covering the 3rd quarter of 2023 reveals a further increase in the amount insurers are charging motorists. Average premiums now stand at £924 per annum. That is 19% more than the previous quarter and 58% more than the 3rd quarter of 2022. We are sure that you will agree these are very big increases and something that drivers could do without especially in the current financial climate here in the UK.

You may be aware that there are various factors that impact how much you are charged to insure your motor vehicle. For example, where you live, your age, the make and model of vehicle you own, how many miles you drive each year and your claims history.

For instance, the most expensive region in the UK to live in as far as insuring your motor vehicle is concerned is in Inner London. The average premium is £1,503 per annum. A year ago, the average premium was £936 per annum – a 61% increase. If you live in Outer London then you will pay less – an average of £1,187 per annum compared to £741 per annum (a 60% rise).

Insurance companies know that, statistically, it is a young driver who is most likely to be involved in a road traffic accident and claim on their motor insurance policy. In the 3rd quarter of 2023, an 18 year old motorist paid an average of £2.995 per annum to insure their car yet a 39 year old paid an average of £989 per annum – a significant difference.

So, when you receive your motorhome insurance renewal notice in the post or by email make sure that you check how much your existing insurer intends to charge you for the next 12 months. Then you may wish to consider shopping around to see if you can get the same cover with another provider for a lower premium.
