Well, whilst there are many people who will go away in their motorhome for a break or two in the next few months, it is reaching that time of year when a lot of motorhome owners start thinking about putting their leisure vehicle away for the winter. So, what sorts of things should you consider doing to make sure that it is nicely tucked away for the next few months?

Assuming that you are unable to store your motorhome in the likes of a warehouse, consider investing in a breathable cover. Prior to putting a cover on make sure that the leisure vehicle is thoroughly cleaned both inside and out. If you do not use a cover then consider giving it a good waxing for added protection against the elements of the winter weather.

It is a good idea to drain all the water from your motorhome to avoid it freezing in the very cold weather that we sometimes encounter here in the UK. This should avoid burst pipes and costly repairs that in the current economic climate you could do without.

When parking up the motorhome place chocks by the wheels, put the vehicle in gear and make sure that the handbrake is off so that there is no binding of the brakes.

Make sure that all food and liquids are removed from the likes of the fridge, freezer and cupboards. This will also reduce the possibility of vermin infestation. Leave the fridge and freezer doors open.

Make sure that the fuel tank is filled up.

Ensure that the motorhome has air circulating in it by opening some of the cupboard doors that have vents to the outside.

Increase the tyre pressure by a small amount and move the vehicle periodically to avoid damage to the tyres in one particular spot.

Take the motorhome out periodically for a few miles as this should help charge up the batteries.

We do hope that the above proves of some benefit in maintaining your motorhome in the winter months.
