If you are interested in taking a motorhome for a short break or a longer holiday then is it better to rent or buy a motorhome? Well, it will probably not come as a surprise to read that there are options both for and against renting and buying.

If you are considering going on holiday for the first time in a motorhome then it is possibly better just to rent a motorhome. After all, who knows if you will enjoy that type of holiday and if you discover that you don’t and chose beforehand to buy a leisure vehicle then it is potentially a lot of money to end up loosing.

Having got a taste for holidaying in a motorhome and enjoyed the experience and feel you are going to have many more holidays in a motorhome then it may be worth considering purchasing such a vehicle. However, having bought a motorhome, you are then going to be responsible for having it serviced and carrying out any repairs. If you rent a motorhome it is not your responsibility to pay for its upkeep.

If you rent a motorhome then you have the option to possibly rent a different motorhome every year enabling you to drive around in an up to date leisure vehicle. If you buy a motorhome then you are more likely to keep it for quite a few years so it may become somewhat dated both in appearance and fixtures and fittings.

If you buy a motorhome then it will depreciate in value over a period of time just as a car does. However, as a general rule a motorhome is unlikely to decrease in value as rapidly as a car.

If you own a motorhome then you are usually able to take off on a holiday at shorter notice than if you had to rent a motorhome. This is because the vehicle is probably on your drive at home rather than being at a motorhome rental depot.

If you have a dog then some motorhome rental businesses will not permit pets onboard. If you own the motorhome than it is you who decides if your dog can accompany you on holiday.

There are no doubt many other considerations you need to take into account when deciding whether to rent or buy a motorhome but we hope that the above has given you food for thought.
