Unless you are particularly hardy, you probably put on hold taking breaks or holidays in your motorhome around the autumn. Very view motorhome owners use their leisure vehicle in the winter months despite many newer vehicles having a very good heating system. So, where do you keep your vehicle until spring arrives?

It probably does not come as a surprise to read that a larger percentage of motorhomes are kept either on owners’ drives at home or parked in the road outside their home. Some people will take their motorhome to a proper storage facility or come to an arrangement with the likes of a farmer to leave it on his or her land as they do not have the space at home to store it.

If you do keep the vehicle at home then it would be preferable if it were kept on the drive rather than on the road outside your property so that it is less likely to be stolen or hit by a passing vehicle.

If it is kept at a storage facility then it would be great if it were kept in a secure building away from any inclement weather that we tend to get in the winter i.e. snow and ice.

If it is out in the open then you may wish to purchase a suitable motorhome cover for it to protect it against adverse weather conditions.

You may also wish to add some more security devices to it such as the likes of a steering wheel lock, road wheel lock and clutch lock. These should help deter motorhome thieves from trying to steal your motorhome that could be worth a five or six figure sum.

Do remember to keep your motorhome insurance cover in place so that should it be stolen or damaged by a passing vehicle that your insurer should hopefully pay out.
