If you are planning to take a short break or long holiday in your motorhome shortly then one of the things that you are probably concerned about is the cost of filling up your fuel tank with diesel or petrol. Prices for a litre of fuel are at an all time high here in the UK due to a number of factors including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. So what can you do to lower your fuel consumption? Below we mention five of the things that you could consider.
1. Turn off your air conditioning
It may come as a surprise to some of you to read that if you use the air conditioning in your motorhome then you will use more of your fuel. Obviously there will be times when you do prefer to keep the air conditioning on such as when it is particularly hot in the summer but so many people tend to leave their air conditioning on all the time. So, why not consider being more selective when you use this option in your motorhome and only switch on when it is really needed.
2. Have your motorhome serviced
It probably will not surprise you to read that if you have your motorhome serviced on a regular basis then it will make your engine operate in a more efficient manner. As a result of this you should see a reduction in the amount of fuel your motorhome consumes.
3. Tyre Pressure
You should check the tyre pressure in the tyres on your motorhome on a regular basis ensuring that the pressure is at the manufacturer’s recommended levels. Incorrect pressures can not only lead to an increase in fuel consumption but also the possibility of having a road traffic accident.
4. Overloading
Your motorhome will have a maximum weight load that it can carry safely. If you exceed that then you not only run the increased risk of having an accident but your fuel consumption may be impacted in a negative way.
5. Driving
How you drive your motorhome can affect the amount of fuel it consumes. For example, if you accelerate excessively, use the wrong gear or travel at very high speeds then you may use more fuel than if you drove more suitably.
We do hope that you find the above tips of use and that one or more of them result in you using less fuel than you normally do in your motorhome.
