It will not be long before Easter is here and you are planning a short break in your motorhome or campervan. There is an awful lot to consider but even more so if you are the owner of a dog and intend to bring him or her with you. So, what sorts of things should you have to think about?
Food and Water
Don’t forget to bring a supply of food for your dog. Ideally, bring ready made up food so that you do not have to cook the likes of chicken whilst you are away. It is your pet’s holiday as well so why not bring along some treats. Your dog will also need access to water whilst travelling in the leisure vehicle and whilst stationary.
Crate
Your dog should really be kept secure whilst you are on the move so why not consider investing in a suitable crate. This could also be used for it to sleep in as well.
Lead and Collar/Harness
What can we say other than these are basic requirements so don’t forget to bring them with you otherwise you will have to buy new ones.
Dog Friendly Campsites
You will no doubt be aware that there are numerous sites around the UK that allow dogs to stay on the campsite but do make sure that it is kept on a lead at all times unless it is in a designated field where it is permitted by the owners to allow a dog off the lead. Keep your dog out of children’s play areas on the campsite for hygienic and safety reasons. They should not go into toilet, shower and kitchen facilities or shops. If there is a pub on site check first if dogs are allowed inside.
Inclement Weather
You know what the weather can be like in the UK so make sure that you bring a suitable coat for your dog as well as a couple of towels to dry it off should you be caught in a downpour or after your dog has enjoyed some time in the sea. A supply of dog shampoo may also be a good idea.
Medicine
If your dog is on medication make sure that you bring it with you. Also, if your dog is occasionally sick then make sure that you have some form of medication to deal with that situation. If you know where you are going to be staying then why not make a note of the contact details of the nearest vet should your pet be taken ill.
We do hope that the above is helpful. Enjoy your next motorhome holiday.
