There are quite a lot of motorhomes and campervans stolen every year here in the UK. So what can you do to help reduce the possibility of the theft of your leisure vehicle?

If your vehicle doesn’t already have an alarm fitted then you could consider buying one and having it fitted. Putting a sticker in the window notifying the potential thief that your motorhome is fitted with such a device may also help. You could have an engine immobiliser installed plus a tracking device. The later device may help have your vehicle quickly located.

A steering wheel lock is a useful potential deterrent and it is something that is very visible as is a wheel lock. These may put off a thief as it could take some time for them to be removed.

When you are not touring in your motorhome or campervan you should think very carefully about where you store the vehicle. Ideally, you should consider storing it in your garage but there are not many garages that are big enough. In which case, you could find a place that stores a number of motorhomes and caravans in a secure compound that is preferably monitored by security cameras and staff. At very least, try to park the vehicle on your drive and have an outside light that comes on when someone approaches to light up the motorhome.

When you are touring in your motorhome you should try to park the vehicle in a public car park that is frequented by many other users or in a very busy street rather than park the vehicle in a quiet back street. If you are in the countryside and decide to leave the vehicle and go for a walk then make sure that you fit the steering lock etc.

We hope that you find the above useful and that you are never faced with having to report your motorhome or campervan stolen to the police.
