If your motorhome insurance is shortly due to be renewed then now might be a good time to review how much your existing insurer is going to charge you for the next 12 months. Who knows, you may be able to save some money.

It is interesting that car insurance premiums have, on average, come down in the 12 month period to the end of quarter three in 2021. Whilst there is no guarantee, wouldn’t it be lovely if you can get your motorhome cover for a lower premium than your existing insurer wants to charge you at renewal?

According to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index, motorists are being charged an average of £514 per annum to insure their vehicles. Apparently, this is the lowest premiums have been in 6 years and the drop of £97 per annum over the last year is the largest reduction in more than the last 7 years.

One of the reasons for the fall may be due to the impact of the pandemic. During the pandemic a lot of people worked from home so did not use their cars as much and some are still doing this. With fewer vehicles on the road this will no doubt have led to a lower number of road traffic accidents resulting in a smaller number of claims and less being paid out by insurance companies.

There are so many things that affect how much an insurer charges to insure motor vehicles. One of those is a driver’s age. According to the above index, an 18 year old pays more for their car insurance – an average of £1,379 per annum. A 70 year old is being charged an average of only £301 per annum.

Where you live also has a bearing upon how much you pay. If you live in Inner London the average premium is £804 per annum. If you live in the West Midlands the average premium is £620 per annum.
