Those of you who own a motorhome or campervan may well be setting off for a Bank Holiday break this weekend and, for some of you, it may be the first time you have gone away in around 18 months. So, what should you be aware of?
Well, you should make sure that your leisure vehicle is in good working order i.e. it has been serviced, the battery is fully charged, the lights are all OK and the brakes and tyres are fine etc.
Ideally, you should have booked a site on which you are going to stay as it would appear this Bank Holiday is going to be very busy. If not, you run the risk of being disappointed when arriving at your favourite site without a booking. Places likes Devon, Cornwall and the Lake District will probably be very busy as they are popular holiday destinations. Yes, you may be able to do some “wild camping” but it may be difficult to find a suitable spot.
There has been a huge increase in people buying and renting motorhomes partly due to the pandemic so many of the roads are no doubt going to be very busy this weekend. Therefore, you may well end up in a traffic jam so you will need to be patient. Some people prefer to travel through the night as it tends to be quieter on the roads then. Alternatively, you may decide to set off for your destination in the early hours but do bear in mind that a lot of other holidaymakers are likely to do the same thing. The likes of the M5 and the M6 can be particularly busy so some people may prefer to stick to the back roads to reduce the possibility of getting stuck in a traffic jam.
