Motorhome and campervan owners may be interested to read that Copeland Borough Council that covers part of the Lake District is asking that certain businesses consider making available pitches for motorhomes and campervans when it is legally possible to do so in order to reduce the possibility of owners of these leisure vehicles parking them up for the night illegally.

Apparently, following the first lockdown, there were a lot of people visiting Cumbria who parked their motorhomes and campervans in inappropriate locations resulting in a few problems being encountered.

It has been suggested by Copeland Borough Council that businesses such as pubs may have hard standing available where motorhomes and campervans can spend the night meaning that the pubs can charge a pitch fee plus they would potentially have the added benefit of the occupants of these leisure vehicles having a meal and a drink in the pub before retiring for a good night’s sleep. The pub may also be available to provide full English breakfasts the following morning to those in their motorhomes thus providing much needed additional income.

Obviously, suitable businesses would need to obtain the permission of the council before offering to allow motorhomes and campervans to spend the night on their land so suitable businesses are being encouraged to get in touch with the Tourism Development Officer at the council to discuss the matter further.

As we mentioned in an earlier post, it should not be long before campsites in England are open again unless the pandemic has another turn for the worse and the UK government feels it necessary to extend the latest lockdown.

Whilst writing, we thought it worth reminding owners of motorhomes and campervans to make sure that they have adequate motorhome or campervan insurance in place in readiness for being able to take to the road once again to enjoy a much needed short break or longer holiday.
