Some interesting research was commissioned by Auto Trader and published towards the end of October 2020 revealing a significant increase in the number of people viewing adverts relating to the sale of motorhomes and caravans in the UK. In September 2020 there was a 94% rise in adverts being viewed for motorhomes and caravans when compared with September 2019.
We are sure that you will agree that is a huge increase especially considering the current pandemic due to COVID-19.
When the survey was carried out with 2,000 adults here in the UK it revealed that 71% of people who were giving thought to having a winter break were prepared to consider having a holiday in a luxurious motorhome or caravan. Hindsight is a lovely thing but sadly those people have not, as yet, been able to take such a holiday due to the current lockdown here in England.
Apparently, there were a lot of people in the 18 to 44 year old bracket who were considering such holidays. That may surprise a lot of people as the perception is that more people taking holidays in motorhomes and caravans tend to be of an older age range. Of course, nowadays modern motorhomes and caravans can be equipped with various mod-cons such as excellent heating systems, top of the range cooking facilities and good internet access and state of the art TV viewing.
Another interesting statistic was that there was a 156% increase year on year of people viewing advertisements for motorhomes and caravans in the price range of £50,000 to £100,000.
It will be interesting to monitor such data in the coming months to see what happens with regard to the sale of motorhomes and caravans when we hopefully eventually come out of this pandemic and the UK and the rest of the world can return to some level of normality in respect of taking short breaks and holidays.
