If you are considering buying a motorhome or campervan then one question you may be asking yourself is whether it is likely to be a good investment or not? There are a number of factors that will impact upon whether such a purchase is or isn’t an investment worth making.

For instance, motorhomes and campervans depreciate in value over a period of time albeit the level of depreciation is not normally as dramatic as that seen with cars. A new motorhome or campervan will depreciate in value as soon as you drive it off the forecourt. Therefore, if you were to base your decision as to whether a leisure vehicle is good value purely on how much you pay for it with how much you sell it for at a future date then the answer would be that it is not a good investment when compared with the likes of a no-risk savings product.

However, in deciding how good an investment a motorhome proves to be you need to take into account how much you use it. For instance, if you only use it a couple of times a year and only take it out for a weekend then it is unlikely to have proved to be good value. However, if you use it for several weeks of the year and compare that with the cost of paying for a couple of family holidays each lasting two weeks abroad each year involving flying overseas and staying in hotels then a motorhome may prove to be of good value as the cost of using the motorhome may be significantly less than the later type of holiday. Not only may you save on transport and accommodation but you may also save on dining costs if you decide to cook food in your motorhome.

Taking more frequent family holidays or short breaks in a motorhome or campervan throughout the year can also be of benefit personally as you are able to get away from the potential stress of everyday living more frequently that may benefit your health.
