There are so many factors that you need to take into account when deciding whether to buy a motorhome. One of these could be how many miles you get per gallon of fuel as this is a significant expense depending upon how many miles you do in your motor home each year.

Obviously, as a motor home is larger in size than a car, you would expect to have to pay more for your fuel. If you only take the occasional short break perhaps one or two times a year then you may not notice the increased cost of filling up the vehicle with fuel.

Most motorhomes run on diesel as this type of fuel enables you to get more miles to the gallon than petrol. You may be pleasantly surprised to find out just how many miles to the gallon you get with a diesel fuelled motorhome or campervan. In the current economic climate any saving that can be made has got to be welcomed.

If your motorhome has an automatic gearbox then you can expect to get fewer miles to the gallon than when at the wheel of a motorhome that has a manual gearbox. This is one of the prices you have to pay for the ease of being able to drive around in a motorhome with an automatic gearbox.

If the motorhome is four-wheel drive then you will get fewer miles to the gallon than in a two-wheel driven motorhome.

Of course, if you are fortunate enough to not have to worry about how much you spend on fuel for your motorhome then it does not matter if you only get say 23 miles per gallon in your motorhome. However, if like most people you have a budget and need to watch the pennies then how many miles you get for every gallon of fuel used is an important factor. Therefore, when deciding the make and model of motorhome you would like to buy check the fuel consumption provided by the manufacturer as part of your decision making process.
