If you own a motorhome or campervan then you have quite a bit of flexibility when it comes to deciding where to park up and spend the night. Whilst there is no doubt a certain appeal to go wild camping and pull over in the middle of no-where you are probably missing out in some respects in comparison to staying on a registered campsite.

For instance, it is possibly safer to park your motorhome or campervan on a campsite that is frequented by other like-minded campers as, if you were to leave your vehicle unattended for a few hours, it is less likely to be stolen or broken into. Can you imagine returning to your motorhome to find that a door has been forced and various items have been stolen?

You should be able to connect to an electrical hook-up meaning that you are not going to use the battery supply in your motorhome. You would be surprised how much electrical equipment may be found in a motorhome these days – i.e. cooker, microwave, hob, fridge, numerous lights, laptop, television and heating.

Your motorhome may be big enough to be fitted with a toilet, sink and shower but if you are staying on a campsite it is possibly a lot easier just to pop over to the shower/toilet block and use those facilities. You will probably have more room and by using the facilities on the campsite you will keep your motorhome tidier.

If you are taking young children on holiday in a motorhome then it is quite possible that the campsite will have a play area for them to enjoy or even a swimming pool.

You may also like to use the laundry facilities on a campsite whilst on holiday to wash, dry and iron a few items of clothing. This may be better than letting them all pile up and have to do a big wash when you get home at the end of the holiday.

There may be an option on the campsite to either use their cooking facilities or there may be an on-site bar/ café where you can enjoy a drink and meal without having to find a pub to get something to eat if you are parked up in the middle of no-where.

As you can see, there are numerous benefits of staying in your motorhome on a campsite. Having said that, there is nothing to stop you also spending a night or two wild camping.
