Unfortunately, just like cars, motorhomes are at risk of being stolen. As you will be aware, people can spend an awful lot of money when purchasing a motorhome or campervan – frequently investing tens of thousands of pounds. Motorhome thieves will possibly look to move on the vehicle as quickly as possible and could even have it repainted and adapted in a number of ways.

Of course, you will have arranged motorhome insurance to provide some form of cover following the theft of such a vehicle but we are sure that you will agree it would be preferable if the vehicle had not been stolen in the first place. So, what sort of things can you do to reduce the possibility of your recreational vehicle being stolen and perhaps never being seen by you again?

Well, it would be worth mentioning that you should not leave your motorhome unlocked when you are away from it. You should also make sure that all the windows are closed. Do not leave your keys in the ignition when you are not with the vehicle. It is not a good idea to leave valuables on display in the vehicle.

There are a number of things that you could use to deter a thief and reduce the possibility of your motorhome being stolen. You could consider using a good quality steering wheel lock, a gear lock and a wheel clamp. You could also have your windows etched. These are all visible.

You could make sure that your motorhome is fitted with an approved alarm, immobilizer and a tracking device.

If your motorhome is stolen then you should inform the police immediately as the sooner you do this the more likely it is to be found. You should also notify your insurance company who provide the cover on your motorhome. Of course, it is to be hoped that you are never in the position of having your motor home stolen.
