Whether you chose to go away on holiday in a motorhome or a towing caravan, both provide you with the freedom to travel around the UK and further afield to Europe and beyond. However, which one should you choose?
Well, there are so many factors that need to be considered some of which we mention below: –
One of those, of course, is cost. As a general rule, you would expect to pay more for a new motorhome than you would for a new caravan providing the same size of accommodation. This should not really come as a surprise to you as a motorhome comes as a complete “motorised unit” whereas a caravan needs to be pulled by the likes of a car and you will no doubt already own such a vehicle or, at worst, need to sell your existing car as it is too small to tow the caravan and buy a new, larger one.
It could be argued that a motorhome is more practical in so much as it is easier to tour around in and get from one caravan site to another to spend a night or two than a caravan is. After all, with a motorhome, all you need to do is get in it and drive away from a campsite whereas with a caravan it has to be hitched to the back of your car before being driven away.
A benefit of a caravan is that you tend to get more living accommodation for your money including larger living, bedroom and kitchen areas and possibly better bathing/toilet facilities.
The cab in a motorhome enables the driver and passenger to sit at a higher level than in a car pulling a caravan meaning that the passenger has a better view of what is hopefully beautiful scenery and the driver can see further ahead on the road.
It is quite likely that you will spend more in fuel costs driving a motorhome than you will in putting petrol or diesel in your car that you use to tow your caravan.
Another thing worth noting is that you are legally obliged to insure your motorhome and a car but you are not legally required to insure your caravan.
A motorhome is easier to reverse than a car reversing a caravan.
As you can see, there are pros and cons about owning both a motorhome and a caravan. Like many things in life, the decision as to which one is most suitable for you has to be yours.
