If you are considering buying a motorhome then one of the things you will need to decide is whether to purchase a new or second-hand one. This decision is often based upon your budget as buying the same make and model of motorhome is almost certainly going to cost you more money if the vehicle is brand new.
If you buy a new motorhome then you are going to have more choice in terms of having some extra features added. For instance, you may be able to have a microwave fitted, have a choice of fabric for the seating, have a more powerful engine, have a built in satnav and choose the colour of the bodywork.
With a new one, you will be the only ones to have used the vehicle. It will no doubt come with some sort of warranty and possibly a servicing agreement for a period of time. In the early years, the repair costs are likely to be lower than that of a used motorhome. It may well be more fuel efficient and less likely to break down whilst you are touring the UK or across the English Channel in France, Spain or Italy.
Unfortunately, a new motorhome is likely to depreciate in value quite quickly so if you did have to sell it after a year or two then you can expect to receive quite a bit less than you will have paid for it.
If you buy a used motorhome then you may well get more for your money in terms of size. However, you may have to compromise on the interior fittings accepting that it does not come with everything that you would have liked that you might have been able to get with a new one. You will no doubt have to start spending money on keeping it roadworthy such as replacing the tyres and paying for an MOT quicker than you would need to do with a new vehicle.
