Just because you have been driving around in your car for many years does not mean to say that you can just get behind the wheel of your new motorhome for which you may have paid in excess of £50,000, take to the roads and assume that it will be as easy to get about in as your car. After all, your motorhome is no doubt going to be quite a bigger than your family saloon car which in itself can prove challenging. However, there is no need to despair because you will be pleased to read that the Camping and Caravanning Club here in the UK runs a motorhome manoeuvring course.
The course, that is run on a number of occasions on certain weekends in April, May, June and July spread between Coventry and York, costs £150 for members of the above club and £175 for non-members.
The course is suitable for people buying their first motorhome as well as those who have been owners for years who just want to brush up on their experience.
You will be driving your own motorhome on the course.
The course commences with a presentation in a classroom environment. After that there are a variety of practicals. Another good thing about the course is that one of the instructors will give you a one to one driving session that should hopefully prove to be invaluable. You will be made aware of the impact that driving a longer and wider vehicle than a car can have whilst on the road. You will also be taught how to reverse correctly. You will be given feedback on how you perform behind the wheel and, if appropriate, you will be informed where you can make improvements.
Another interesting benefit of the course is that you will be taught how your motorhome should be loaded with items. This is important as the way the motorhome is loaded can impact on its stability especially when turning around the likes of bends and roundabouts.
As part of the course you will have an eye test and you will need to have your driving license and your insurance documents covering your motorhome plus an MOT certificate if the vehicle needed one.
Hopefully, as a result of attending the course, you will benefit by becoming a better motorhome driver. If you do decide to attend a course then we hope that you find it enjoyable and beneficial.
