You should always check your tyres before setting off on a journey to make sure that the tyre pressure is OK and that there are no visible signs of damage or objects sticking in them such as nails. However, when bringing your motorhome out of storage then you should also spend time inspecting the tyres as, according to the charity TyreSafe, the condition of tyres can deteriorate whilst in winter storage.

Of course, spring is the time of year when a lot of motorhomes and campervans are brought out of storage as people often decide to go away in their vehicles at Easter or the May Bank Holiday.

So, what sorts of things should you look out for when checking the tyres of your motorhome? Well, you should look for things like cracks in the wall of each tyre not forgetting the spare wheel. Also, there may be a lump in the tyre or a nail or glass. It is a good idea to carefully remove any small stones that have become caught in the tread of the tyre as they could lead to causing further damage to the tyre including puncturing it. You should also make sure that the pressure on the tyres of your motorhome are at the required levels as, if not, this could affect the safety of the vehicle and also the number of miles that you get per litre of fuel.

It is also important that the tread depth of the tyres meet the legal requirement. The consequences of this not being the case are potentially severe. If your tyres are not satisfactory then you could end up being fined and receive penalty points on your driving license. This in turn could lead to you having to pay more for your motorhome insurance. Also, if you were involved in a road traffic accident and had say a tyre that did not meet the minimum legal thread depth then you may find that the insurance provider refuses to meet any claim that would not be a good thing.

So, when you bring your motorhome out of storage and also on a regular basis, do make sure that you check your tyres for any wear and/or damage. If in doubt, get them checked by the likes of a tyre fitting firm.
