A survey carried out by the Caravan and Motorhome Club and Warners Group Publications has confirmed just how popular holidays and short breaks that are taken in campervans and motorhomes are with people in the UK. We thought that we would share with you some of the statistics from the above survey that are particularly interesting.

For instance, did you know that there are in the region of 225,000 campervans and motorhomes being used in the UK? We are sure that you will agree the above is a huge figure and many of you may be surprised to read just how popular this type of holiday is. It just goes to show how many people enjoy the freedom that the likes of a campervan provides when it comes to touring around either in the UK, Europe or elsewhere in the world.

Of the above figure, there are in the region of 90,000 Volkswagen campervans both vintage and contemporary in the UK. Volkswagen is to be praised for its commitment to providing this form of motorised accommodation. In fact, they saw a 50% increase in the sale of their campervans in 2017.

There are an awful lot of campervan owners who decide at the last minute to jump into their holiday vehicle and take to the road. They often decide upon their destination on the spur of the moment.

Of those taking part in the survey, in excess of 50% spent below £20,000 when buying a campervan. Almost 33% spent below £10,000. It is also interesting to read that there are not too many who spend more than £45,000 on a campervan – one in
eight. This just goes to confirm that you don’t have to spend a huge sum of money if you don’t want to on a campervan or motorhome and just think of the saving you may make on such a holiday when compared with a family of four spending a week in a hotel in say Southern Spain.

Another interesting statistic is that the most popular activities undertaken by those that own campervans are cycling, walking and surfing. In fact, 70% of Caravan and Motorhome Club members who took part in the survey take part in activities whilst on holiday in their campervans.
